Maidstone Camera Club, kindly sponsered by Taylor Wimpey, hosted on Saturday 19th November 2011 the 19th Audio-Visual Competition in the Lecture Theatre of the New Line Learning Academy, Boughton Lane, Maidstone, ME15 9QL. The event was extremely well organised and ran very smoothly thanks to the sterling efforts of Ray Bridges and his team. While we did not gain the top trophies (our congatulations to Folkestone C. C. who achieved a hat-trick of the top three places) we are pleased that Mike Jones was awarded the trophy for the Best Dissolves in his sequence 'Springing Out'.

MARLEY MEDALLION TROPHY 2011

On Tuesday 8th November 2010 the Marley Medallion Competition was hosted by Maidstone Camera Club and judged by Keith Evans, FRPS, DPAPG. This is an annual event between five Maidstone Clubs with each club entering 5 prints and 5 digital projected images. The winner being the club with the highest overall scores. This year Maidstone Camera Club was declared the winner with Invicta Photographhic Club a close runner up. Maidstone had the added honour of being awarded the Best Print (click here to see the winning entry).

The medallion was originally awarded to George Marley, a member of the Maidstone & District Photographic Society, in 1922. He subsequently donated it to the club to be competed for by local clubs. There is no record of the medallion for the next 50 years. In 1972 the medallion was encased in a acrylic block by Mike Jones with John Arnold making the aluminum stand on which it is mounted; with the first recorded club to win it being Reeds Aylesford Camera Club in 1972.

The participating clubs at present are: Maidstone Camera Club, Staplehurst Photographic Society, Invicta Photographic Society, Tovil Camera Club and Malling Photographic Society.
